ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION TRACK

If you are looking for an accelerated education degree, consider our alternative certification track that allows you to start teaching full-time after one semester of classes. An alternative teaching certification is a great way for you to gain valuable classroom experience while you finish your master’s degree in education.

M.S. Ed. candidates seeking certification in the following areas may elect to participate in the alternative certification track of the M.S. Ed. Program:

   • Special Education
   • Bilingual Elementary Education or English as a Second Language (ESL)
   • Secondary Math, or
   • Secondary Biology

Under some circumstances elementary candidates may also participate in the alternative certification track.

Students in the on-the-job alternative certification track begin working as full-time paid teachers during their second semester. They continue in the program while working as teachers, earning their teaching license after their third semester and a Master of Science in Education degree after the fifth semester.  Learn more about the alternative certification program »
