MASTER'S DEGREE IN EDUCATION WITH CERTIFICATION
If you want to earn your master’s degree in education, it’s time to contact NTEC. In partnership with NTEC, Quincy University offers a Master of Science in Education leading to teacher certification in the following areas:
• Special Education
• Elementary Education
Secondary:• Biology
• Math
All programs are offered with an option for a Bilingual or an ESL endorsement. There are two tracks to this program: the Traditional Track and the Alternative Certification Track. The required 32 credits of math or biology coursework must be completed prior to starting the program. Continue reading to learn about our alternative teaching certification track.
TRADITIONAL TEACHER CERTIFICATION TRACK
Students in the traditional certification track complete four (4) semesters of coursework and a fifth semester of student teaching before earning their teaching certificate and a Master’s Degree in Education. The program can be completed in as short a time as 18 months with summer enrollment. Students in the traditional track begin work as teachers after they have completed the program. ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION TRACK
If you are looking for an accelerated education degree, consider our alternative certification track that allows you to start teaching full-time after one semester of classes. An alternative teaching certification is a great way for you to gain valuable classroom experience while you finish your master’s degree in education.
M.S. Ed. candidates seeking certification in the following areas may elect to participate in the alternative certification track of the M.S. Ed. Program:
• Special Education
• Bilingual Elementary Education or English as a Second Language (ESL)
• Secondary Math, orUnder some circumstances elementary candidates may also participate in the alternative certification track.
• Secondary Biology
Students in the on-the-job alternative certification track begin working as full-time paid teachers during their second semester. They continue in the program while working as teachers, earning their teaching license after their third semester and a Master of Science in Education degree after the fifth semester.
